Your Detect Energy Host, Don Ames

Don Ames at Work

Don Ames is proud to be your host here at Detect Energy. Spreading the word about the Security of Home Energy Conservation is something I like to do.

I see the world as being at the mercy of man and mans growing population. What is the world going to do when the population outgrows the worlds energy resources. I believe energy conservation and renewable energy management is important for the world to survive and be healthy for future generations.

I have had several occupations:

Growing up on a farm:

Nothing beats growing food and the beauty of golden strands of wheat gently waving in the evening breeze. Of -course, gallons upon gallons of diesel fuel was consumed in the process.

Running a Small Trucking Business:

I spent a number of years behind the wheel of an eighteen wheeler grinding over the road to get the food, lumber, and steel where it needed to go. About every 6 months the truck would be pulled off the road for a State inspection. One thing the inspectors were looking for was how much oil was dripping off the engine onto the road.

Building New Homes:

Went from Trucking to building new homes. It’s not easy building a custom home in 4 months. On that building schedule, there was not enough time to properly address energy efficiency measures.

Home Energy Auditor:

With a background in home construction, it was easy to slip right into the Energy Auditor field. This was an interesting transition – first you build homes and then you learn how they breath and how the parts all work together. If I had it to do over again, I would have been the auditor first and then the builder.

Here on Detect Energy, you will find articles that describe my time on the job. Come along with me and experience my failures and success as I audit a home and make recommendations for saving energy.

I hope you will find something of value here at Detect Energy, something that will support your effort to undertake successful conservation measures both at your home and wherever you are.

Hope to see you again real soon, but I won’t leave the light on for you…
