LIHEAP Assistance

Thank you Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program ( LIHEAP )

The world is facing the need for more and more power in the form of electricity and combustion fuels. So far , there is no end in sight. Our power appetite includes everything from skyscrapers that reach into major flight paths to hand held electronics that can tell you where to go and when.

It’s not just that we need more power, we need more clean, renewable power. The world is getting funny that way, please power my iPhone but don’t pollute the air I breath in the process. I am waiting for that invention, an iPhone that will purify the air you breath when you plug in your handy iPhone nasal cannula’s. An article here on Detect Energy reported that 50% of the energy the world produces is lost through outdated equipment, energy in-efficiency, and energy waste. Does the world actually produce twice the power needed and then let 50% of it escape before it can be used?

One of the major issues involving clean, renewable energy is saving the energy we already produce. It might sound funny, but when it comes to home energy savings and the knowledge to perform energy audits and energy saving upgrades, we should thank the Low-Income Housing Energy Assistance Program. Yes, I know – I said low-income, but that’s where a majority of the weatherization funds from government and power company programs are targeted. All across this U.S. of A, there is a low-income weatherization program working professionally to save energy on low-income homes.

To contact the LIHEAP program or other low-income program in your area, contact your power provider and ask about weatherization.

Now, the power companies that are mandated to provide a portion of the funds they collect to saving energy, do not want the funds they provide wasted. So, with the help of the States, agencies have been set up around the country to handle the money and to handle the weatherization. It is these agencies that have established the extensive training centers to train and educate their work force.

In many areas, it is these low-income weatherization specialists that lead the way in effective and proven methods to weatherize and save energy at any residence. Not only is saving energy a priority, but keeping the home safe and comfortable is equally attended to.

Every weekday morning, around the States, these organizations send out platoons of home energy auditors and weatherization work crews. The work they do each year saves enough energy to cancel the construction plans for several nuclear power generators, a couple of river-restricting dams, and a handful of air-polluting coal burners.

It would be natural to believe that some professor from a facility of higher learning was behind the methods and advancements in weatherization techniques, but actually, it is the members of a low-income weatherization crew that is giving and receiving the training that sets the standards for saving energy. It is comforting to know, that as the world struggles with providing enough clean energy, there is an army out there with the knowledge and the tools to save some of the energy we already produce.

If you want this energy-saving army to consider invading your home, contact your power provider and ask them for the phone number of the low-income weatherization program in your area.

Thank you for coming by Detect Energy, hope you enjoyed this article and will come back soon, but remember, I won’t be leaving a light on for you…
