Today’s Power Trip, the Home is Gone
Hi folks, Don Ames Reporting
To save energy is going to need to be a battle cry for the masses. Energy consumption is going to need to be reduced on a each person bases. Don’t just expect the power companies, smart meters, or giant wind turbines to solve our increasing power demands. Each person needs to look for areas where they can do their part. Japan and a giant wave provided a wake up call.
I was reminded over the weekend that spring is officially here – so why was it so cold and why was the rain flying sideways. I find it handy to carry a handkerchief in my back pocket, you know, wallet on one side and the kerchief on the other. It really helps to tie a handkerchief around your neck when your trying to lose less body heat.
This can be my energy saving tip for the day, tie a big old handkerchef around your neck and save energy.
I always feel warmer when I stand as opposed to sitting, as I watch a bunch of horses go around an cold arena, I stand with my hands in my pockets. Problem is, there is a lot of horses going around this arena all day. I get tired of standing.
Traveled about 40 miles over to the next town to check up on the manufactured home replacement project I have been working on. Things are going well, I needed to check on the plumbing and electrical connections and I needed to pay the motel room for the young couple and their daughter for a few more days.
When undertaking this type of project, you need to remember that electric and plumbing connections cannot just be reconnected like they were on the old home. Connections have to be brought up to code with the newer home.
In this case, the electrical service will need to be upgraded to a 200 amp service. The old home had a 100 amp service. These days, with so many electrical appliances in a home, 200 amps are needed to meet the demand.
The newer home has underfloor and attic insulation added as well as the heating ducts sealed. The windows have been upgraded to vinyl double pane windows. A new electric furnace has been installed and a programmable thermostat. I am really looking forward to checking the power consumption of this upgraded home. It’s going to be miles better than the old home that was demolished.
On the way back home, there is one section along the road that someone has planted to daffodils. Folks, there is six miles of continuous, uninterrupted daffodils along one side of this road. I like it, reminds me of stories of Johnny Appleseed.
