Door Sweep

We all know that a door allows people to enter  and leave their home. Without a door, we would be stuck either outside or inside our home. I guess we could climb in a window, but that’s too much work.

Along with letting people pass through, a door is used to cover up one the the biggest holes in our house. A door has a big job. Not only does a door need to open and close, it also needs to plug a big hole. In the doors effort to plug the big hole, the door sweep that is attached to the bottom of most doors is vital in air sealing the door opening.

Door sweeps, because they move, wear out. Door sweeps lose their ability to effectively air seal the gap at the bottom of the door. To maintain the doors ability to seal the door opening, you may need to install a new door sweep.

I recommend the following video for those that wish to install a new door sweep themselves. It is not a hard job and requires very few tools. No use hiring a contractor or handyman when you can do-it-yourself.

You can first check the bottom of your door and see what kind of sweep your door currently has. It is a good idea to install a similar door sweep to insure a good fit. By shopping at your favorite building or hardware store, you will discover several different kinds of sweeps. Each one will attach to the door in a little different manner.

So, I hope you enjoy the video and learn how to install a new door sweep so you can save energy and air seal that door opening.
