Smart meters are slowly working their way across this great county of ours. You will get one whether you want it or not. The smart meter installation is costing your power company thousands of dollars. Yes, your power bill is going to go up again. My position is simple, embrace the smart meter and use it’s technology to save on your power bill. Read on.
New, San Diego Gas & Electric customers with smart meters can now subscribe to google powermeter. San Diego Gas & Electric is installing smart meters to their 1.4 million customers starting in North San Diego county and moving south. With the new smart meters, San Diego is making it easy for their customers to view their energy use online. The collaboration with Google/powermeter makes it all possible and it’s all free. Studies show that households that have real time power usage available usually save 5% to 15% on their power bills.
In order to access the Google PowerMeter, customers of San Diego Gas & Electric must meet all of the following criteria.
1. Have only one smart meter at your home. If you have more than one meter, the usage will not display correctly on the Google program. There is a three month waiting period between meter installation and access to Google powermeter.
2. You must register for San Diego Gas & Electric’s My Account.
3. Register for an Google personalized homepage account. If you don’t already have one, you can get one from the Google Power Meter website at no cost.
Smart meters are being installed all over the county. There is a pretty good chance that your power company has started installing them in your area. If your power company does not offer Google Power Meter then get on the phone and let them know your interested in Google Power Meter and real time power usage information. Let them know your interested in saving 5% to 15% on your power bill.
