Some old tools and old tricks from the past and some new ‘High Tech’ gadgets make being an Energy Spy both fun and productive. Let’s look at some Energy Spy Gear.
“Gear Stuff”
Low tech – place a piece of toilet paper over the ceiling fan to check for effective exhaust fan operation. A dollar bill works good to.
Medium Tech – Set a thermometer in your freezer to make sure the temperature is between 0 Degrees and 5 degrees.
High tech – Set up a Power Monitor, ( TED ) the Energy Detective, and watch the digital display indicate the amount of money it takes to bake that birthday cake. You can purchase TED from the Amazon link at the right side of the page.
Future High Tech – Someday, your home computer will be your power advisor and it will advise you when to start the dishwasher. To keep up on the latest energy spy gadgets, register for the premium Energy Spy Insider weekly newsletter right here at detect energy. Just click Best Help on the menu ribbon. P.S. you still need the low tech toilet paper for the ceiling fan.
Here is a short list of thermometers I would recommend you have in your Energy Spy Tool chest.
1. Thermometer for taking the temperature of your hot water. Remember, about 120 degrees is good.
2. Thermometer for gauging the temperature of your refrigerator. Food likes temperatures between 36 and 39 degrees.
3. Thermometer for testing the temperature of your freezer. The ice cream likes temperatures between 0 and 5 degrees.
Thank you for dropping bye, I hope this helps you conserve power and lower your power bill. Come back soon…but, remember, I won’t leave the light on for you. Donames
