“That’s A Wrap” Insulation is Your Homes Winter Coat

That’s a wrap, wrap it up with insulation and save energy.

Your home needs a good coat to keep both warm and cool. A home in shirt sleeves and shorts does not save energy or save money. Here’s some places to wrap up.

“Wrap Places”

1. The attic needs a good air sealing before you add a nice thick layer of insulation. How thick is thick, oh, about the distance beween the tip of your fingers up to your elbow.

2. Exterior walls are a good place to put all the insulatin the wall cavity will hold.

3. Underfloor can be a nasty place, but properly installed floor insulation can feel mighty good on the feet and the pocket book.

4. Don’t forget the heating ducts, they should be wrapped with insulation and properly sealed at all joints and connections.

5. Water lines even like a little attention. Wrap cold water lines to keep them from freezing and wrap hot water lines to keep them from becoming cold water lines. Don’t forget to wrap the water lines coming to your water heater. Wrap from the heater until they disappear in the wall.

6. The hot water tank could use an additional coat of insulation even if the tank is already insulated. If your hot water tank is new enough, it has a layer of insulation between the tank and the outer shell already, but that doesn’t keep you from adding insulation around the out side. Just be careful not to cover the access plates on an electric water heater or the bottom burner opening on a gas water heater.
