Take a look at the picture I have included with this article. Study the picture, take a good look and then think about energy, saving money and conserving power.

While your thinking about your answer to – What’s in the Picture?? – I will simply mention that it is summer time with rising temperatures and long sunny days. I would also like to mention one of the greatest energy saving appliances ever developed, the Solar Clothes Dryer.

Ok, back to the picture – I took this picture of an unsuspecting home while traveling through the country side just last week. In the picture is a ranch style home with two roll down blinds hanging from the edge of the roof. As the sun sets, these two blinds protect the west facing windows from the evening sun. Inexpensive and simple, these blinds upgrade the windows solar heat gain coefficient. SHGC measures how well a window blocks heat from sunlight. In this case, two roll down window blinds provide an energy efficient way to keep a house cool. Kind of a bamboo air conditioner.
